Skin Care Cream Tips and
Facts
Our skin is the largest organ of the body; we need
to take care of it in order for our outer appearance to look good and to help our body ward off any sickness or
germs that we come in contact with daily. A skin care cream can help us maintain the elasticity and suppleness of
our skin. These kinds of creams are usually made to be moisturizers to keep the moisture in our skin and combat
aging and dry skin.
Composition of Skin Care
Cream
Skin care cream usually contains lipids, sterols,
humectants, emollients, oils and lubricants. These are the basic contents of any skin care cream. Some
manufacturing companies add other elements to magnify or promote the benefits of the cream. You can make homemade
skin care cream with the basic ingredients and add any herbal or natural ingredients to suit your needs. Most of
the basic ingredients are available in specialty stores or drug stores.
Humectants can be any of the following: lactic
acid, sorbitol, glycerin and urea. Emollients can be lanolin or some specialized oils specifically made for skin
care cream use. Emulsifiers usually act as preservatives or as agents for fragrance used in making
creams.
Uses of Skin Care Cream
The main use of these creams are as moisturizers
for our skin and as a barrier against moisture loss from heat and sun exposure. Other uses for skin care cream are
as agents for medication or therapeutic uses. In cases like these, they have certain medicinal values that are
specifically integrated into the creams in order to facilitate improvement or healing of the
skin.
Adverse Effects of a Skin Care
Cream
Some skin care creams may cause allergic reactions
to sensitive individuals or aggravate the skin conditions that you are trying to heal in the first place. Symptoms
of allergic reactions of aggravation may be redness in the area, itching or stinging sensation and often rashes.
You should be aware of the contents of the cream that you wish to use to avoid any undesirable side
effects.
Using just any cream that is not recommended by
your dermatologist to clear up any skin problems should be avoided. On the other hand, if you just want to
moisturize your skin, basically any skin care cream moisturizer will do; just make sure you don’t develop a rash or
an allergic reaction to it.
